Baa Atoll
Where Nature's Greatest Spectacle Unfolds
About Baa Atoll
Baa Atoll is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, recognized for its outstanding universal value and biodiversity. This atoll is home to some of the richest marine habitats in the Maldives, including mangroves, seagrass beds, and coral reefs that support an incredible array of marine life.
The atoll's crown jewel is Hanifaru Bay, a marine protected area where hundreds of manta rays and whale sharks gather during the southwest monsoon (May to November) to feed on plankton blooms. This phenomenon is one of the largest known aggregations of manta rays in the world, attracting marine enthusiasts from across the globe.
Baa Atoll is also home to several world-class luxury eco-resorts including Anantara Kihavah, Soneva Fushi, and Amilla Fushi. These resorts pioneered the concept of sustainable luxury in the Maldives, combining barefoot elegance with environmental conservation. Local islands like Dharavandhoo and Eydhafushi offer authentic Maldivian experiences with guesthouses and diving centers.
